FESTIVAL PREVIEW — « CHOR AND CHORCHOR » BY HAMO BEK-NAZARIAN (1926), CINEMA CONCERT WITH ARTYOM MANUKYAN

An encounter between the silent films of Hamo Bek-Nazarian, a pioneer of Armenian cinema, and the contemporary music of cellist Artyom Manukyan. In this burlesque 1926 masterpiece, marking the birth of Armenian comedy, two lazy husbands are driven from their home by their wives. The men believe they are victims of a satanic spell, and a priest is called to deliver them. Artyom Manukyan’s music breathes new life into these images almost a century old. A cellist of international renown, he brings together the genius of Bek-Nazarian and the avant-garde sounds of his own musical universe. This cinema concert is a unique opportunity to discover or rediscover an essential page in the history of Armenian cinema.
Film presentation by Tamara Stepanyan (filmmaker).
