8th edition / Erevan
Weaving links between East and West through cinematographic, choreographic, literary, musical, philosophical, architectural and visual arts proposals is particularly significant for this eighth edition of Un Weekend à l’Est festival, dedicated to Yerevan and Armenia, whose cultural heritage lies at the crossroads of the Western and Eastern worlds. The Armenian genocide and the mass exodus that followed, the country’s pagan past, its recognition as the cradle of Christianity and societal changes continue to influence the Armenian nation, reputed to be one of the oldest and most fragmented in the world. Amongst the highlights of this edition: our special guest, Armenian contemporary choreographer and dancer Rima Pipoyan’s latest creation, a tribute to Charles Aznavour’s 100th birthday with our other special guest André Manoukian on piano, Camille Thomas on cello, and in the presence of film director Robert Guédiguian, a concert with Sergey Khachatryan (violinist) and his sister Lusine (pianist), an evening of Armenian jazz with Artyom Manukyan’s band, and an event around the legendary filmmaker Artavazd Pelechian will make the next edition of the festival a true ode to this multifaceted Armenia, whose richness has yet to be discovered.
