Romanian choreographer Simona Deaconescu examines social constructions by weaving connections between fiction and objective reality. Her work explores critical scenarios around the body while speculating on its role in past and future societies. She frequently works collectively, within interdisciplinary groups or in duos. In her art, the performative meets the cinematic in spaces where nature, history, and technology intersect, expanding the notion of choreography beyond the human body alone. Her practice is embedded in innovative research-based networks such as Moving Digits, MODINA, biofriction, and Forecast. She has been twice awarded the Aerowaves Artist program (2018 and 2022) and the Moving Balkan Artist award in 2025. Simona is the founder of the Tangaj Collective, a transdisciplinary artistic production structure bringing together creators and researchers. Their projects — performances, installations, films, and videos — have reached audiences across the Balkans, Central and Eastern Europe, British Columbia (Canada), Mexico, and Madagascar.
