Author, director, and playwright born in Romania, Alexandra Badea has lived in France since 2003 and has chosen French as her writing language. Her texts, published by L’Arche, stand out for their fragmented language, infused with images, sounds, and bodies, where political elements seep in to reveal the indignity of human conditions. Winner of the Grand Prix de littérature dramatique [Grand Prize for Dramatic Literature] (2013) for Pulvérisés [Pulverized] (L’Arche, 2012) and the Prix du Théâtre de l’Académie Française [French Academy Theatre Prize] (2023), she has written around twenty plays translated and performed internationally, including Points de non-retour [Points of No Return] (L’Arche, 2018–2021). Her trilogy on the missing narratives of French history has marked national stages and the Avignon Festival. She is also a novelist, with works including Zone d’amour prioritaire [Priority Love Zone] (L’Arche, 2014) and Tu marches au bord du monde [You Walk at the Edge of the World] (Équateurs, 2022). As a director, she advocates a practice oriented toward transmission, working in schools, prisons, and social centers.
