THE PARISES OF EASTERN EUROPE

Around his book Les Paris de l’Autre Europe [The Parises of the Other Europe] (Les Manuscrits Savoirs), Polish historian Błażej Brzostek explores the urban history of Warsaw and Bucharest, two Central European capitals that, in the 20th century, shared the nickname “Little Paris” in their quest for modernity. A specialist in social life and everyday practices under communism, he offers an original reflection on the exchanges between East and West. The discussion will be enriched by his translator, Erik Veaux, a connoisseur of Poland and mediator of countless literary voices, as well as by Laure Hinckel, translator and photographer. His recent book BucarestTrente ans après [Bucharest – Thirty Years Later] (ICR), awarded the Antoaneta Ralian Prize, documents a city in perpetual metamorphosis, between memory and the present.
