MISSAK AND MÉLINÉE MANOUCHIAN, TWO ORPHANS OF THE ARMENIAN GENOCIDE

In 2024, eighty years after his execution and that of his comrades from the “Affiche rouge”, Missak Manouchian has been interred in the Panthéon, alongside his wife Mélinée. The symbolic significance of recognizing this emblematic couple of the Resistance — two Armenian, communist foreigners — is a major event. Historian and CNRS emeritus research director Claire Mouradian retraces their story in her latest book, co-written with Astrig Atamian and Denis Peschanski, Manouchian: Missak and Mélinée Manouchian, Two Orphans of the Armenian Genocide Committed to the French Resistance (Textuel, 2023).
Hosted by Julie Clarini, editor-in-chief of the "Ideas" section at Le Nouvel Obs.
