Born in Romania, Anca Damian studied at the National University of Theatre and Film in Bucharest, where she earned a PhD in Arts, Cinema, and Media. She works as a director, screenwriter, and producer on several art-related documentaries. Her animated documentary The Journey of Mr. Crulic [Le voyage de Monsieur Crulic] (2011, Cristal at the Annecy Festival) was selected for over 150 international festivals, including Locarno IFF and Telluride, and received more than 35 international awards. She has directed seven feature films: Crossing Dates [Crossing Dates] (2008), A Very Troubled Summer [Un Été très troublant] (2013), The Magic Mountain [La montagne magique] (2015), Moon Hotel Kabul [Moon Hotel Kabul] (2018), The Extraordinary Journey of Marona [L’extraordinaire voyage de Marona] (2019), and The Island [L’île] (2022).
