MATEI VISNIEC: A WORK BETWEEN TWO LANGUAGES

Meeting with Matéi Visniec, playwright, novelist, and poet born in Romania in 1956. Exiled to France in 1987, he made the French language his second homeland and theater a space of freedom where the tragic, the comic, and the absurd intertwine. In parallel with his career as a playwright, he continued to write in Romanian, including novels, and has also self-translated in both directions. Hosting him at Inalco, where around a hundred languages are studied, including Romanian, offers an opportunity to explore the multiple facets of his work in light of this bilingualism and dual culture, which have long nourished Romanian literature.

Hosted by Cristina Hermeziu, writer and journalist, and Cécile Folschweiller, lecturer in Romanian language, literature, and civilization at Inalco

Free entry, subject to available seating
