Mihaela Drăgan is a multidisciplinary artist based in Bucharest. In 2014, she founded the company Giuvlipen, composed of Roma actresses, where she works as an actor, director, and writer. In 2018, she developed Roma Futurism during a residency at Para Site (Hong Kong) — a project blending Roma culture, technology, and witchcraft — presented notably at the Venice Biennale (FutuRoma), the Museum of Contemporary Art in Belgrade, and the Kai Dikhas Festival (Berlin). That same year, she was recognized by PEN World Voices as one of the ten most respected playwrights in the world. In 2019, she joined the residency program at the Royal Court Theatre (London), where she wrote a science-fiction play about a society of Roma witches. In 2021, she presented her first video installation, The Future is a Safe Place Hidden in My Braids, and in 2022 released a feminist trap album under the pseudonym Kali, with Niko G. In 2024, she took part in the Shakespeare Festival with Caliban and The Witch, a Romani-language adaptation of The Tempest.
