Gabriela Adameșteanu was born in 1942. A novelist and short story writer, she is considered one of the most important voices in Romanian literature. Her novels Une matinée perdue [A Lost Morning] (translated from Romanian by Alain Paruit, Gallimard, 2005), Vienne le jour [Vienna the Day] (translated from Romanian by Marily Le Nir, Gallimard, 2009), and Situation provisoire [Temporary Situation] (translated from Romanian by Nicolas Cavaillès, Gallimard, 2013) were all highly praised by the press. Fontaine de Trevi [Trevi Fountain] (translated from Romanian by Nicolas Cavaillès, Gallimard, 2022) is her fourth work translated into French. A novel of wisdom and self-acceptance, it subtly explores themes of exile and memory, confirming Gabriela Adameșteanu as one of the great voices of contemporary Romania.
