Maciej Tworek studied piano and choral conducting at the Academy of Music in Kraków. He attended master classes with Helmuth Rilling, Roger Norrington and Kurt Masur, and was assistant conductor to Valery Gergiev and Lorin Maazel. From 2005 to 2012, he conducted the Capella Cracoviensis. In 2002, he began an 18-year collaboration with Krzysztof Penderecki, including the recording of his complete symphonies and instrumental concertos, and performances of Violin Concerto No. 2 Metamorphosen with Anne-Sophie Mutter. He has conducted major orchestras in Europe, Asia, and North and South America, including Tonhalle Zürich, Dresdner Philharmonie, Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra and Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra. In 2019, he conducted Penderecki’s Polish Requiem and St. Luke Passion. In 2025, at the Basilika Papale di Santa Maria Maggiore in Rome, he conducted Penderecki’s Credo.
