THE CITY OF TOMORROW: ARCHITECTURE OF SOVIET MODERNISM
Over the past twenty years, Soviet modernist architecture has garnered increasing international interest. Detached from the Western historical narrative after the Cold War, research into Soviet modernism has deepened the exploration of this unique architectural heritage. However, the Second Nagorno-Karabakh War and the ongoing war in Ukraine have disrupted the collective memory of former Soviet societies. These conflicts have halted the momentum of research, exhibitions, and protection initiatives.
Ruben Arevshatyan, an artist and exhibition curator based in Yerevan, will discuss this topic. He is the president of AICA-Armenia and director of the studio of artistic practices at the Contemporary Art Institute of Yerevan. The discussion will be moderated by Georgi Stanishev, an architect, scenographer, and instructor at the Architecture school Paris-Malaquais.
