LIVING PORTALS: HERITAGE AND CONTEMPORARY COLLECTIVE CREATION
Although the post-Soviet legacy has encouraged communal practices, collaborative artistic creation has only recently taken shape in Armenia. This phenomenon has been largely driven by the AHA collective’s initiative with the Living Portals project in 2022, which invited visual artists and architects to explore the relationship between art and habitat. The contemporary carpet collection Bold Khndzoresk by Davit Kochunts evokes the vernacular homes carved into the rock by the inhabitants of the region. These carpets become "living portals," bridging tradition and contemporary art.
Davit Kochunts and Nairi Khatchadourian (AHA collective) will discuss the emergence of alternative spaces and the rise of collective artistic practices in Armenia.
