« TONRATUN, THE ARMENIAN HISTORY TOLD BY WOMEN » BY INNA MKHITARYAN (2022)
In an Armenian village, five women—daughters, mothers, and grandmothers—share their stories and discuss life and war while preparing bread. The tonratun (the bakehouse) is the space where these women can openly talk about topics considered shameful and embarrassing in traditional patriarchal Armenian society. While the men are elsewhere, they converse near the fire, mixing their tears with the flour. Their words and laughter have become their daily bread. Inna Mkhitaryan is an Armenian photojournalist, and Tonratun, the Armenian history told by women is her first feature film.
In the presence of the filmmaker, the screening will be followed by a discussion moderated by Séverine Danflous from Transfuge.
