« 1489 » BY SHOGHAKAT VARDANYAN (2023)

Shoghakat Vardanyan never studied film. Born into a family of artists in Yerevan, she decided to become a pianist at the age of six. She pursued her studies at the Komitas State Conservatory in Yerevan, later performing classical, academic, contemporary, and experimental works, both solo and as a member of ensembles, around the world. When the Artsakh war broke out and her family lost contact with her brother, who was fighting on the front lines, she took out her mobile phone and began filming. This is how her first film, 1489, was born, capturing the abyss of anguish her family fell into during two years of unbearable search and waiting.
In the presence of the filmmaker, the screening will be followed by a discussion hosted by Ariane Chemin (Le Monde) and Gaïdz Minassian (Le Monde).
