THIRD SEX

Jean-Chat Tekgyozyan is a writer and playwright. He recently published Troisième sexe (Belleville, 2021), translated from Armenian by Anahit Avetissian. In this surreal, graphic, and surprising novel, he tackles the difficulty women face in leading their own lives in a society that still views them as incomplete without men, punishing courage rather than inspiring it. Taking a counterpoint to classical Armenian literature, where female characters are usually relegated to secondary roles, he advocates for a reality in which powerful women are still considered a third sex.
