Meri Karapetyan

Meri Karapetyan, born in 1998, is an Armenian visual artist. A graduate of the Armenian Academy of Fine Arts, she completed her Master’s degree in Visual Arts at the University of Paris 1. As the first laureate of the annual Atamian Hovsepian Curatorial Practice art residency in New York, Meri created three site-specific installations.
In 2022, Meri participated in an exhibition during Arts Week, creating an installation in the gardens of the Paris 1 Institute of Geography. That same year, she exhibited at the Salon des Indépendants for the Art Capital event at the Grand Palais Éphémère. In 2021, she created a site-specific installation at Latitude Art Space in Yerevan.
Deeply affected by the recent history of conflicts in the independent Republic of Artsakh between 2020 and 2022, Meri Karapetyan deconstructs the concept of borders with the aim of "disarming" them and revealing what she believes to be their primary function: defining the undefinable. Her work explores space using various materials such as ropes, earth, copper, and plaster.
