Aren Malakyan

Aren Malakyan was born in 1991 in Vanadzor, Armenia. In 2015, he graduated from the Yerevan State Institute of Theatre and Cinematography, Faculty of Fiction Film. During his studies, he participated in an international workshop organized by the Łódź Film Academy in Yerevan. His graduation film Girl On The Moon (2014) received the President of the Republic of Armenia Award in 2015, as well as several awards at international film festivals, including Bastau IFF, New Wave IFF, and Fresco IFF. The film also won Best Film at the Web Apricot Festival in Yerevan.
Since then, Aren has directed the TV mini-series Special Department (2015) for Armenian Public Television, as well as the short film Snow (2016), which premiered internationally at the Shanghai International Film Festival. In 2022, Malakyan presented his latest documentary, 5 Dreamers and a Horse, at the Vision du Réel Festival in Nyon, Switzerland.
He is currently working on his second feature-length documentary project, Flying Cows.
