Sevak Grigorian
In 2003, Sevak Grigoryan graduated in sculpture from the Yerevan Academy of Fine Arts. In 2009, he moved to Rome, which allowed him to refine various techniques and bring himself closer to the alchemy of materials, which he explores as a reflection of his sculptural practice. Although he has lived abroad for a long time, he maintains a close connection with his homeland. A member of the Union of Artists of the Republic of Armenia since 2005, he currently resides in Paris.
Sevada is a terracotta sculpture representing the artist’s brother. A video of his face, created by David Baronian, is projected onto the sculpture, making it appear as though it is observing us. Sevada recounts his memories, those of a child born in 1983 in Russia who moved to Armenia and witnessed the collapse of the Soviet Union. The artwork, while merging sculpture with imagery, reverses the position of the viewer in a constant state of ambiguity as it gazes straight into the eyes of the spectator.
